Amisha Patel was born in Maharashtra, India on June 9th, 1977. Her father’s name is Mr. Amit Patel and her mother’s name is Asha Patel. There is an interesting fact as to how Amisha got her name; her name is a combination of letters from that of her parents. Amit, 1st three letters (ami) and the last three from her mother Asha (sha) gives Amisha. Amisha’s grandfather is a well known Indian lawyer, Rajni Patel. Her brother’s name is Ashmit Patel.
Amisha’s schooling was completed from the Cathedral High School in Bombay and she completed her graduation in Economics from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Not only an economics graduate but she also holds a degree in Biogenetic Engineering obtained from the United States. She is also a gold medalist in economics from the Tufts University. So its very much apparent that she is not a dumb actress as other actresses in Bollywood are precivied to be. At least the same cannot be said about Amisha as she excelled in her studies throughout. She also had a job in the United States and was working with the global financial company Morgan Stanley.
Once she came back to India there were new things waiting to happen. Firstly she joined Satyadev Dubey’s theatre group and thereafter she started acting in plays too. This drew the serious apprehensions of her family members, belonging to the upper crust of high society and Amisha being a brilliant student it was natural too. But somehow she managed to convince her parents. Then one day they were over for supper at Mr. Rakesh Roshan’s house where he offered Amisha the lead role in his forthcoming Bollywood movie.
Her life changed with that movie. The movie to be made by Rakesh Roshan was titled ‘Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai’, the movie was not only Amisha’s Bollywood debut movie but it was also the Bollywood launching of Hrithik Roshan, Mr. Rohan’s son. The music of the film was as usual given by Mr. Rakesh Roshan’s brother Rajesh Roshan. The movie proved to be the biggest grosser of 2000. Both the actors were over night stars and their posters were all over the country, people just folked to the theaters to get a glimpse of Bollywood’s newest sensations.
Her very next movie made her a huge celebrity, a successful actress and the toast of Bollywood film faternity. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was a romantic movie whose fortunes swung between the borders of India and Pakistan. This movie turned out to be a massive hit, it is the biggest grosser of the twenty first century. The movie starred Sunny Deol in the male lead role and Amisha in the main female lead role. She is a Muslim and Sunny is a truck driver. Both of them meet and eventually get married. She is then taken back to her native Pakistan by her politically influential father. Sunny goes to Pakistan, finds her and against all odds brings her back to India. The theme caught the facny of the entire nation and Amisha was on top of the world with two big hits to her name. Her performance in the movie won her the Filmfare Special Performance Award.
But her career took a u-turn thereafter, all her movies just flopped miserably at the box office. In an attempt to get herself a hit she again paired by with Hrithik Roshan in the movie Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage. But to her despair it did work either. Her failures started to mount and only Humraaz in 2002 is a movie that did good business at the box office. From 2002 to 2006 that is for 4 years she couldn’t get the elusive hit. She also acted in "Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai" which is a 2006 Indian romantic musical film directed by Bunty Soorma and starring herself, Bobby Deol, and Arjun Rampal. In 2007 she worked in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, the star cast of the movie was most impressive, starring Bollywood heartthrob Akshay Kumar, Shiney Ahuja, sexy actress Vidya Balan, Paresh Rawal amongst other. The movie was a super hit and she finally managed to break the jinx.
Amisha is known to be very fond of international luxury brands and her collection of perfumes, accessories and bags is so extensive that many would just drop their jaws at one site of her collection. The collection has all famous names like Louis Vuitton, Versace, Gucci and Christian Dior. The projects that she has signed on to appear in include one to be directed by Kunal Kohli, produced by Yash Raj Films starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji. There is another one that has Govinda titled Do Lucky which is a comedy as you can expect a Govinda movie to be and another one stars Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt.
